Fran grew up spending summer vacations with her grandparents in East Orleans. Her first job was creating a seasonal bookstore, The Narrow Land Bookstore, on Main Street in Orleans.
Her education includes a bachelor in liberal arts, a master’s in mathematics education, a master’s in social work and a graduate certificate in landscape design. She taught high school mathematics in Massachusetts and Connecticut. She worked for twenty years as a psychotherapist and mental health department director at the Fallon Clinic in Worcester, MA. She ended her career working in private practice as a psychotherapist at Orleans Psychotherapy Associates in Orleans before retiring in 2006.
In retirement she has been an advocate for environmental issues on the Cape, with a particular emphasis on improving water quality in our freshwater ponds and marine embayments. She was board member and president of the Orleans Pond Coalition and participated in creating and managing the Celebrate our Waters weekend festival in Orleans. She is also the Orleans alternate designee to the Pleasant Bay Alliance, a municipal organization formed by Orleans, Chatham, Harwich and Brewster to coordinate the resource management plan for the Pleasant Bay ACEC.
Having worked with families and individuals on the Lower Cape, Fran is well aware of the need for affordable housing and good paying jobs to support a sustainable community here on the Cape.
